Casa Luna is the largest of a cluster of converted farmhouses sitting on a hilltop among the woods and vineyards of Calamandrana, a village in the Langhe region of Piemonte.

Piemonte means ‘at the foot of the mountains’ – on a clear day, the Alps are visible in the far distance, floating over the hills.

The Langhe is famous for its wine, cheese, truffles and hazelnuts – and for its rich agricultural heritage. Thanks to long hot summers, cool, damp winters and snow-melt from the mountains in Spring, the region is a lush, green paradise almost all year round.

The Houses

Casa Luna is a comfortable nineteenth century farmhouse – a cascina – complete with swimming pool and tennis/pickleball court.

It’s attached to an annex: The Rustico, a two-bedroom stone barn.

On the other side of The Rustico you’ll find our home, Casa Tenca.

About us

Hello, I’m Kate – a storyteller, writer, theatre-maker and facilitator from the UK. I began my career back in 1990 at the National Theatre of Germany in Hamburg, before returning to the UK to tour with the English Shakespeare Company. I then began a freelance association with the Learning Department at the National Theatre in London. 27 years later, I still work as a freelance Senior Artist and Facilitator in the Learning team.

I’ve directed shows for theatres throughout the UK and travelled the world teaching and facilitating. For twenty years I taught storytelling and Shakespeare as a visiting tutor at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts London Programme. Today I write novels, create recovery through arts projects for wounded veterans and teach leadership presence to executives at Fortune 500 companies worldwide. I also teach a range of creative courses here at Casa Luna.

My husband, Jack, was born in New York, and has lived in Europe for 35 years – we met in Hamburg. He’s a woodwind player – his instruments are flutes, saxophones and clarinets. As well as composing for theatre and film, he has toured and played with musicians across the world, including Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Tom Waits, Yoko Ono, Marianne Faithfull, Tim Robbins and many more.

Today, as well as playing music he supports leaders and executives, teaching innovation and creativity.

Both of us are mediators, creative artists and facilitators. And we both grew up in homes that were always open and welcoming to an ever-changing array of guests. We wanted to recreate the same relaxed and hospitable atmosphere that we were lucky enough to enjoy growing up – and here, at Casa Luna, we have found the perfect setting.
